GRETA’S TIP: Let’s talk leadership. It’s a buzz word that never seems to go away. We hear about it on the news, at the water fountain, in the bathroom, at the supper table and in the bedroom.

I think we all agree there are different levels of leadership, some good, some bad.

Recently, I felt like I was on the set of the TV show, “Big Bang Theory.” I was at a meeting were attendees were all computer geeks. The non-profit has been around for 5 years, but some members complained because of the lack of membership and income growth.  I could quickly see why.

GRETA’S TIPS: Don’t let your small business run or overwhelm you

GRETA’S TIP:  The life of a small business owner can be sometimes overwhelming. It’s easy to lose sight of what actually perpetuated your desire to start your own company.

Usually, we go out on our own because we are driven by a passion to produce a product or a service. I call that “the production department.”

But when you’re in business for yourself, and especially for mom and pop start-ups, you also take the roles of the sales, financial, procurement, janitorial, maintenance, administrative, clerical and security departments. You’re often the one who also answers the phone.

Greta’s Tip:  Let’s talk photography. All businesses need to have photographs of their products. Those photos need to be available to put into advertising materials, on labels, on outdoor billboards, online … the list goes on.

To do it correctly, you need to make an investment in your photography. It’s true that “a picture is worth a thousand words.” But, if it’s not taken correctly, then you have a lousy image of your company. Continue reading Greta’s Tips: Whether a business or a band, photos matter

GRETA’S TIP: The trend for small business owners is to cancel their land line and use cell phones. I personally don’t think that’s smart.

I received a phone call the other day from someone with a cell phone and all I could hear was “wha, wha, wha.” I called the number back and the other party answered. Again, “wha, wha, wha.” Continue reading Greta’s Tips: Which phone to keep; smile when on it

Greta’s Tip:

Asheboro is a Facebook community. Many businesses and organizations utilize their pages very well. However, a Facebook account will only show up once in an online search. You need more than Facebook to promote your products and services. Websites, blogs, You Tube videos and other portals will reach many more people than a Facebook page. Greta’s Tips: Thank you letters, business cards

Greta’s Tip: Hand-written thank you letters or business notes used to be commonplace. However, with social networking and email, our society has regressed to a simple “ty” for “thank you.” If you want to make an impact with a client, donor, colleague or boss, consider handwriting a note. Make sure it’s legible and that all the words are spelled correctly. After all, there is no spell check. With your handwritten note, you will make a positive impression, one which will be remembered. It’s a great sales tool for your business! Continue reading Greta’s Tips: Thank you letters, business cards
